TV Height
Set screen height around eye comfort instead of copying showroom mounting heights.
Center near eye level
For seated viewing, the screen center usually feels best near eye height, often around forty to forty-six inches from the floor in a normal sofa setup. The exact number depends on seat height, recline, screen size, and whether viewers sit upright or leaned back.
Check the bottom edge
A large TV can have the center at a comfortable height while the bottom edge interferes with a console, center speaker, or soundbar. Keep the center channel close to the display, but do not block the screen or force the TV too high.
Fireplaces are difficult
Above-fireplace installs often push the display too high and expose electronics to heat. If that is the only wall, consider a pull-down mount, lower seating expectations, or a smaller display that keeps the center closer to eye level.
Control reflections
Windows and glossy walls opposite the screen can make a correctly mounted TV feel worse than a slightly imperfect height. Plan curtains, lamp positions, and screen tilt before assuming brightness alone will solve the problem.
Mock it first
Tape the screen outline on the wall and sit for ten minutes before drilling. Watch a dialogue scene, a sports clip, and something with subtitles; comfort is easier to judge in context than from a single formula.
